Neighborhood Guide: Central

Central is the heart of the city, with access to the biggest and best theaters, sports stadiums, concert venues, entertainment, and dining in all of Minnesota. There is no better area to be for convenient and sophisticated city living, from riverfront lofts and high rise condos to brownstones and townhomes.

Homes in the Neighborhood

The average sales price for a home in Central last month (September 2022) was $428,390 and was on the market for a median length of 59 days.

Neighborhoods in Central include Downtown East, Downtown West, Elliot Park, Loring Park, North Loop, and Stevens Square/Loring Heights. This community does vary a bit from neighborhood to neighborhood when it comes to home prices, with the average in condo-dense Steven Square at $200,067 and the average in swanky riverside Downtown East at $793,295.

Central Dining

Phenomenal pastas, small plates, and the legendary soft eggs and lobster bruschetta keep Bar La Grassa perpetually packed.

Loring Park's P.S. Steak is a modern steakhouse in a classic, historic setting. A fireside drink in their beautiful lounge is one of my favorite cold weather spots.

French bakery and bistro Bellecoure Bakery is the perfect stop for an indulgent treat in the North Loop. Don't miss out on a slice of their signature crepe cake.

Tucked away in a little North Loop alley, it can be tough to spot Cobble Social House, but if you make your way there you'll be rewarded with a cozy-chic atmosphere and fantastic cocktails.

The Monte Carlo is an old school joint that has been serving up classics since 1906 from their copper-topped bar and expansive patio. Their famous dry-rubbed chicken wings are a must.

Central Shopping

For ethical and sustainable women's fashion with a focus on minimalistic and unique pieces and gifts, head to North Loop's Parc boutique.

With their artfully curated men's & women's apparel, gifts, furniture, and interior design services, Martin Patrick 3 offers a true "lifestyle" shopping experience unlike anywhere else.

Pacifier is an Urban Baby & Kid's Boutique for cool children's gifts, apparel, strollers, cribs, nursery bedding and toys.

Bibliophiles will love exploring the literary arts center at Open Book, which homes a bookstore, coffeehouse, gathering space with panoramic rooftop access, and the local publishing headquarters of Milkweed Books.
