Neighborhood Guide: Calhoun-Isles

Calhoun-Isles is an upscale lakeside community around the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes that offers exceptional urban outdoor living. With miles of walking and bike trails, beaches, boating, and the famous Sculpture Garden the area has a huge variety of outdoor recreation available. In addition to easy access to the great outdoors, residents also enjoy a buzzy commerce district with shopping, dining, and entertainment plus world-class museums like the contemporary Walker Art Center. With so much to offer for a variety of lifestyles with a blend of gorgeous historic homes and contemporary condos, this area is a perennial hot spot.

Homes in the Neighborhood

The median sales price for a home in Calhoun-Isles last month (March 2022) was $415,000 and was on the market for a median length of 35 days. This community does vary from neighborhood to neighborhood pretty drastically, however. For instance, the median sales price in condo-dense Uptown was $319,000 while the stately Kenwood neighborhood was at $1,180,000!



Calhoun-Isles Dining

With floor-to-ceiling windows and a beautiful patio overlooking the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, the views are as good as the food at Cardamom. The fabulous Medditerain and Aegean menu is further complemented by an excellent cocktail and pastry program.


The light-filled, equestrian-chic dining room at The Kenwood creates a charming backdrop to enjoy the chef-driven, yet approachable menu. The focaccia benedict with Calabrian paper hollandaise makes an indulgent brunch and the dinner menu always features excellent house-made pasta options.


Bebe Zito is on a mission to “provide flavor vacations in the medium of cup, cones or pints” and their inventive ice cream flavors definitely deliver. As an added bonus, on the weekend they beef up their menu with a killer burger and fries.

Magers & Quinn is the largest independently owned new and used bookstore in the city. This beloved shop has a fantastic staff of literary fans who have been selling new and used books at the location since 1994.
